“The first country in Europe” – The Galician Kingdom was first established in 411 AD. It has a very distinctive character, and it is probably one of the lesser known European nations.
Galicia has a strong Celtic background, although it is possible to feel Roman, Germanic and other influences. However, Galicia is unique in itself, and has a vibrant culture and folklore.
Galician language and literature had a paramount importance in the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages. At present, the Galician nation is an autonomous territory within the framework of the Spanish State. Through Spanish representation, Galicia is a member of the EU.
